Is The IQ Test The Same For Everyone?

There is one quotient whose popularity is so great that the whole world has heard of it. And not only has it been heard about it, but it has gotten the interest of more people than any other mathematical solution. This is, of course, the intelligence quote, also known by its abbreviation IQ.

Why do so many people care for this quotient? Well, it begins in our early childhood. When people become parents, and especially when the child starts school, they often wonder – What is the IQ of my child? Is it smart enough?

Thus, we are becoming aware of its importance for the overall life success of our little one and we are trying in every way to make this ratio as high as possible. Later on in life, people who haven’t done it earlier, start to be curious if their IQ is high enough and search for a way to find out.

Here it’s important to explain a bit more about what it is

IQ or INTELLIGENCE QUOTE is a measure that determines the ratio of innate and acquired skills of a person. What we know, how much we have learned, and how skilled and capable we are of using that knowledge.

It is, therefore – the comprehensive knowledge we possess and the ability to apply it.

How is it calculated?

To determine it, psychologists use tests that are adapted to the age of the person being tested. The essence of these tests is in the construction of tasks that cause mental activity, that is, solving problems based on mental abilities (thinking). The results of these tests can be presented in many ways, but the most common one is the one we are mentioning in this article.

The test aims to determine how an individual is intelligent compared to his peers. Most people are introduced to such testing during the school period, during which they are tested in order to find out which school is the most suitable for them.

What do these tests look like?

What needs to be noted is that the intelligence tests used for testing have nothing to do with general knowledge and culture. They are completely based on graphical elements to objectively measure innate intelligence.

Each task has eight fields (scheme 3×3), where the last field in the lower right corner is empty. The candidate must find the correct solution from the four offered answers. During the test, try to be alone so that no one distracts you.

If you get stuck on a task, don’t waste time, just move on to the next one. The time you have to solve this test is 20 minutes for 40 tasks. You can take the test if you click here. The tasks on the test are not equally difficult. In the beginning, there are simple tasks that gradually become more complex.

Such tests are usually divided into spatial, numerical, and verbal. Some are the so-called high range, high range tests of all three types, which aim to measure intelligence from the lowest to the highest, and can also be used as a supplement to standard psychological tests. There is no time limit for the solution. It is also important to state that it is never too late to take the test.

However, just as physical strength is not crucial for solving, there are no universal tips for detecting correct answers. You don’t have to, for example, be preparing yourself before solving, and it doesn’t matter what time of day it is either, as some of the articles found on the internet would suggest.  Most of the tasks have their own correct, even simple logic, which needs to be found.

It depends on what you want to measure. If it is a simple quota to satisfy your curiosity, then the one we suggested earlier is ok. However, there is another test, measuring other aspects of human intelligence that can be taken. For example, Reynolds Intellectual Assessment Scales.

What people also wonder about are the results, and if the results are below what has considered average means that someone is stupid. For, this one needs to consider why these tests were made in the first place.

A lot of people think that they show if someone is smart or not, but in reality, the only thing they show is able a person is to comprehend abstract logic. They were first assembled to assess whether someone needs help when it comes to education or not. Afterward, the test was seen as a good tool to assess intelligence in people, for other purposes.

Thus, people started using the same one for different things. For example, during immigration to the USA, in the early 20th century psychologists claimed that different ethnic groups have different intellectual abilities and used these tests to prove it. Of course, later on, it was found out that this was not the case, and the theory was abolished.

Another theory was that women, in general, had lower IQs. There was also a logical explanation for this. It was because for most of the last century they were struggling to get proper education, and most have never encountered any kind of test, not to mention this one. This resulted in a majority of them having bad results. All of this changed as we grew closer to the millennia.

In the end, many of you reading this article may wonder if there is a way to prepare for the test. As there is no answer sheet for you to learn before the testing, unfortunately, it won’t go as in high school. However, experience has shown that those who have been solving similar logical tasks do better at the testing simply because the pattern by which they are solved is known to them. They feel comfortable doing such tasks. So, if you really want to make the most of the test, make sure you are comfortable with the task pattern.
